As promised, the PDF for the five separate circuits implementing our five gates: AND, OR, NOT, NAND and NOR: Logic Gates.pdf
In addition I ordered the following parts for the circuit:
- 2N3904 NPN Transistors
- 10k Ohm Resistors
- 330 Ohm Resistors
- 1P2T SPDT Vertical Slide Switch
- 3mm and 5mm LED Lights Emitting Diodes Assortment Set Kit
(I used the 5mm Red 1.9-2.1V 20mA and 5mm Yellow 1.8-2.2 20mA diodes.)
You will also need wire; I used the 22AWG Solid Hook Up Wire Kit, and all this goes a lot faster if you have a wire cutter and a wire stripper. And of course you’ll need a breadboard to hook everything up with.
For power I simply used a battery pack and a couple of AA batteries.
(Addendum: the circuits that are used in this Quick Video are not useful if you’re building larger circuits. Specifically the AND and OR gates can’t really be used in complex circuits; see the revised Introduction to Digital Computers (part 1) video for more information.)
